Public participation on statistics bill 2026 seeking to establish the “Kenya statistics authority”

Isiolo residents give their views on the Kenya Statistics Bill. Proposals in the bill seek to repeal the Kenya 2006 statistic act that established the Kenya National bureau of statistics (KNBS).

Some of the proposals of the Statistics bill 2026 are establishment and of the use of biometric data registration during census and surveys in the country.

According to Linda Olweng acting head of legal (KNBS) the consultative process has reached citizen across all the forty seven counties.

The new bill she said will empower statisticians by introducing a Kenya Statistic Authority with more enhanced functions from what is currently provided in the Statistics act 2006.

Proposal of the bill outline how statisticians will conduct their duties including issuing notices incase of non compliance on statistical matters.

Linda assured the public that the bureau is an independent entity that treats data that is collected with privacy and confidentiality by observing the data protection act and no data can leak to third parties like investigation bodies.

Isiolo Central ACC has called on residents to offer data as the government relies on these statistics to conducts development and sharing of resources.
