PWDs to Benefit from New Inclusivity Project in Isiolo and Kakamega
A new project aimed at promoting inclusivity for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) has been launched in Isiolo and Kakamega counties.

The initiative, dubbed ‘Jumuisha’, seeks to raise public awareness, fight stigma, and connect PWDs with opportunities in government and the private sector. It will be implemented by Christian Blind Mission (CBM) and the Northern Nomadic Disabled Persons Organization (NONDO) in collaboration with the two county governments of Isiolo and Kakamega.
CBM Country Director David Munyendo said the program will support the counties in domesticating the National Disability Act, 2025 and the National Disability Policy, 2024, ensuring disability issues are reflected in County Integrated Development Plans (CIDPs) and budgeting processes.
Muyendo explained that Youths living with disabilities will receive training and be linked to private companies through the Inclusive Internship Program to improve their employability.

The project will also focus on access to essential services such as medical assessments, assistive devices, education, job placements, and scholarships.
Isiolo County Executive Committee Member for Health, Lucy Kaburu, welcomed the initiative, saying it will strengthen efforts to finalize and implement a disability policy and act currently before the County Assembly.

NONDO Chief Executive Officer Fatima Mohamed said more than 60 community dialogues will be held in Isiolo to raise awareness on the needs of PWDs and engage stakeholders on disability inclusion.
The Jumuisha project is expected to enhance opportunities for PWDs while pushing for stronger policies to address their challenges at county and community level and reducing stigma toward PWDS.
