Isiolo Elders and Activists Demand Probe into County Expenditure After “Soko Huru” Remarks and Alleged Senate Bribery During Governor Guyo Impeachment Hearing
A section of Isiolo elders and activists have called for urgent investigations into Isiolo County Government’s expenditure, following President’s recent remarks alleging corruption in the Senate whenever governors are summoned to respond to financial queries.
The elders claimed that Governor Abdi Ibrahim may have misused county funds to bribe senators in order to block his impeachment in the Senate. They further accused him of deploying government machinery to frustrate the impeachment process.
Reading a joint statement on behalf of elders from various Isiolo communities, Yusuf Huka demanded accountability from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). He cited incidents of abductions, alleged killings, and destruction of property at the Isiolo County Assembly during the impeachment saga, calling for thorough investigations.
Meru elder Majau Peter lamented that “justice for Isiolo people was traded on the floor of the Senate,” urging state institutions to safeguard fairness and integrity.
Activist Anab Kassim echoed the calls, insisting that the reported KSh150 million allegedly spent to bribe senators must be investigated and all those found culpable prosecuted.
She also raised concerns over alleged bribery at the Government Printer, which she accused of illegally gazetting two county assembly speakers, thereby fueling divisions within the assembly.
Anab urged the President to use intelligence agencies to establish the truth behind the allegations, insisting that accountability on these issues was a matter of grave public interest.
The elders also called for accountability from the DCI on the abductions that were reported during the impeachment process citing stalled investigations and arrests of those who were culpable.
