MAN CYCLES 1,200 KILOMETRES TO RAISE AWARENESS ON THE DANGERS OF DRUG ABUSE
Fredlick Ochieng, an activist from Marsabit County, has embarked on a 1,200-kilometre cycling journey from Moyale to Busia to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse. This marks the third time he has undertaken the mission.
Ochieng said he was inspired to start the initiative after losing his brother to drug abuse. He noted that in 2022, the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) responded to his advocacy efforts by establishing offices in Isiolo and Marsabit counties.
He also credited his earlier campaigns with contributing to the passage of the Marsabit County Alcoholic Drinks Control Act of 2016 by the county assembly.
During his current journey, Ochieng engages with members of the public wherever he finds gatherings. He also speaks in churches during Sunday services and visits schools to educate young people about the risks associated with drug abuse.
He expects to reach the Busia border within the next two weeks.
