Man’s painful struggle ends in self amputation of his genitals cry for help.

Concerned neighbors in Isiolo have come out to ask for assistance from the public to support a thirty-five-year-old man who amputated his own genitals, to help him get medical support.
The man (whose name is concealed for privacy) is currently receiving treatment at Better Me Rehabilitation center in Isiolo.
Collins Shaban, a lead psychiatrist at the center, said the patient underwent drug tests at the facility and was found to have been excessively abusing miraa, bhang (cannabis), Chaves, tobacco, and antipsychotic drugs.
“It has barely been a month since his admission, but the patient is responding well to treatment and is starting to regain self-awareness,” said Shaban
Shaban explained that the rehabilitation program for drug abuse lasts between three to six months, costing a total of SH.105,000.
In addition to the patient’s mental health struggles, doctors are also concerned about the physical consequences of his condition.
The patient who has not fully recovered from the wound of mutilated genitals now requires urgent penile reconstruction.
Muslim Abdi, the guardian and a Good Samaritan, to the patient expressed concern over the financial burden of his care.
“I found him living on the streets, deeply depressed,” said Muslim.” During his psychotic episode, he inserted a metallic object into his genitals, which led to severe infection and ultimately caused the amputation.”
After the incident, Muslim took the patient to a local hospital, where he was later referred to Meru General Hospital where he spent over a month there receiving treatment. Recognizing the need for mental health support, Muslim transferred him to Better Me Rehabilitation Center, where he is currently receiving both psychological care and social support.
Doctors warn that without reconstructive surgery, the victim is at high risk of falling back into depression once he fully recovers mentally. The procedure requires substantial financial resources, which are currently beyond their means.
Muslim is appealing to well-wishers for financial assistance to help cover the costs of the patient’s continued rehabilitation and the urgently needed reconstructive surgery.
