PS liban flags off relief food as State Relief Food for 21 Muslim Counties Arrives

The government has delivered relief food to Isiolo County as part of an initiative targeting 21 Muslim-populated counties during the Holy Month of Ramadhan. Principal Secretary for the State Department of Petroleum, Mohamed Liban, flagged off the food consignment and called on Muslim leaders to ensure it reaches the most vulnerable members of the community.
Speaking during the event, Liban emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting Muslim faithful facing challenges in acquiring food to break their fast. He noted that the relief program, initiated by the President, aims to cushion vulnerable families from food insecurity, particularly in drought-affected regions like Isiolo and the North Eastern region.
The relief package delivered to Isiolo includes 300 bags of rice and 260 bags of beans, which were officially handed over to Muslim leaders. These leaders will oversee the distribution to ensure that those most in need benefit, particularly during Iftar.
Liban also reassured residents of the government’s preparedness in handling potential food shortages, acknowledging early signs of drought in some parts of Isiolo County. He stated that a disaster management plan is in place should the current rains fail.
In addition to food relief, the Principal Secretary highlighted key development projects in Isiolo County. These include the Affordable Housing project, a Hospital Emergency Center, and the Isiolo Abattoir, all of which are nearing completion. He further announced that the Isiolo Kenya Medical Training Centre (KMTC) is set to receive an ultra-modern hostel, as promised by the President during a recent visit.
Deputy County Commissioner Siele Christopher welcomed the relief effort, describing it as a timely intervention for many Muslim families observing Ramadhan. He noted that diminishing pasture in the county is already affecting livestock owners, increasing reliance on government support.
Canal Bonaya, a local Muslim leader, expressed gratitude to the government for its concern and assistance during this critical time. He confirmed that the relief food will be distributed to over 80 mosques across the county, ensuring widespread reach to those in need.
