WILL PRESIDENT RUTO RISK LOSING A KEY MOBILIZER LIKE GOVERNOR GUYO IN ISIOLO AHEAD OF 2027?

President William Ruto’s name has now been dragged into the heated political wrangles surrounding the ongoing impeachment efforts against Isiolo Governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo.

In a defiant show of strength, Governor Guyo led a large crowd of supporters at the Isiolo County Assembly grounds to celebrate a court ruling that temporarily suspended the impeachment proceedings until June 30, when further directions will be given.

Flanked by key allies — including MCAs Gillo Kina (Kina Ward, UDM), Abdirashid Ali (Garbatulla Ward, UDA), and former Isiolo South MP Abdi Koropu — the governor projected confidence and dismissed any notion of political isolation.

“I’ve had recent conversations with President Ruto — in fact, I called him today from my house here in Isiolo,” said Guyo, drawing loud cheers from the assembled crowd.

The gathering was seen as a powerful political statement aimed at those pushing for his removal and a statement to the 16 MCAs who have not ben seen in the county since the motion was tabled, signaling that the governor still commands considerable influence on the ground.

Responding to accusations that his administration had failed to deliver, Governor Guyo highlighted a range of development projects in health, water, security, and early childhood education that he claims are transforming the county.

MCA Gillo Kina strongly refuted allegations that the impeachment efforts are state-sponsored. “The narrative that the State is behind this impeachment is false. I personally know the President is in direct contact with Governor Guyo,” he said, asserting that external forces were manipulating some MCAs for their own agendas.

MCA Abdirashid Ali emphasized the need for strict adherence to legal procedures, both in the attempt to impeach the governor and in efforts to remove the county assembly clerk.

Former MP Abdi Koropu, a member of the governor’s Sakuye-Migo clan, made a rare public appearance to show his support for Guyo. He criticized those already eyeing political positions in anticipation of a successful impeachment, calling it premature and opportunistic.

As the political tension escalates in Isiolo, questions are being raised about the potential cost to President Ruto should he alienate a significant grassroots mobilizer like Governor Guyo — especially in a region that may prove pivotal in the run-up to 2027.
